Chapel Hill, N.C. (March 16, 2020) – A slate of experts from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and its affiliated Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise will be offering a press briefing via teleconference on the tremendous effects of COVID-19 on business, workers and the economy at large. Join tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17, at 11 a.m. to hear from:
Kenan Institute Executive Director Professor Greg Brown on how individuals should be managing their finances and retirement portfolios in the face of volatile financial markets and economic uncertainty.
Professor Mike Christian on the results of working while sick as well as the role of organizational and individual stress and resilience during the crisis.
Professor Jim Johnson on the ramifications of the virus on our nation’s working poor, many of whom face lost earnings due to business shutdowns as well as heightened family food insecurity from mandatory school closings.
Professor Lauren Lu on the need for businesses and public entities to start developing the infrastructure and procedures to keep operations running and employees safe.
Professor Christian Lundblad on the global economic and financial market implications of the virus.
UNC Center for the Business of Health Faculty Director Professor Brad Staats on the financial challenges hospitals face as cost-generators, such elective procedures, are canceled and already-limited capacity is reached and likely exceeded.
Each expert will provide a brief overview on the above topics, citing all applicable emerging research and data, before opening the floor for questions from the press. You’re invited to join by phone, and may contact MacKenzie Babb to submit any questions you’d like addressed ahead of time.
